| The Katoke Trust is a small, voluntary, grass-roots organisation with some big goals. We are making a sustained, multi-pronged attack on poverty in the Katoke area of Tanzania. Our activities have three themes; Educate, Care, Grow. Our belief is that the central way to secure long-term development is by education, and this has been the major emphasis of our work. Without education, the poverty cycle cannot be broken. Read about The Katoke-Lweru Secondary School. The Katoke Trust for Overseas Aid was founded in 1998 by Dr Alan Watson. As president of the Trust Alan has overseen the provision of educational, medical and agricultural development assistance. His work for the third world was recognized in 2002 with the award of the International Citation of Merit by the International Reading Association – the only occasion in which this award has been given to an Australian. Watson has built up a dedicated group of volunteers to work with him towards achieving the vision of the Katoke Trust. Being a small, grass-roots organization, virtually 100% of the money raised through donations goes straight back into the community projects that the Katoke Trust support. |
